Qualification Overview

The qualification is designed for candidates who want to:

  • Gain the skills and knowledge to prepare, style, and finish a variety of cat breeds.
  • Understand health and safety in a cat grooming salon.
  • Learn about health checking, handling, and feline behaviour.

Course Details:

  • Practical Training: Minimum of 6 days at Absolutely Animals.
  • Online Learning: 6.5 days of online lessons from home.
  • Portfolio: Complete an online portfolio that meets the 100 guided learning hours.

Personal instruction from Heidi Anderton will be included in the online lessons.

This new qualification, developed by iPet Network for the canine and feline sectors, allows candidates to start at Level 3 without needing a lower-level course. Over 6 days, candidates will groom at least eight cats, including a minimum of three different breeds and covering three different coat types.

Candidates will learn practical skills such as prepping, bathing, scissoring, clipping, styling, and nail trimming on a variety of cat breeds.

Uniquely, candidates are continually assessed via practical demonstration and coursework. There is no requirement to sit a formal exam in order to achieve the qualification. iPet Network has designed the qualification to have an excellent balance of theoretical and practical learning. Absolutely Animals wants to take the pressure out of adult learning, and we can adapt to suit your learning style. Our aim is to improve industry standards by ensuring you walk out of our school fully qualified, confident, and competent.

The iPet Network Level 3 Certificate in Cat Grooming and Introduction to Styling will demonstrate to an employer or the general public that candidates understand the core principles of cat grooming and have been introduced to styling techniques. Candidates will leave with a foundational knowledge base to continue learning or working in the cat grooming industry.

It has been designed specifically for those looking to start their journey in cat grooming or those who already groom cats (as a hobby) but would like to gain a nationally recognised qualification.

The units and evidence completed as part of the iPet Network Level 3 Certificate in Cat Grooming and Introduction to Styling can be recognised as prior learning should a candidate want to progress and complete the iPet Network Level 3 Diploma in Cat Grooming and Salon Management qualification. The candidate would need to complete an additional minimum of 15 days at a training provider and complete the following additional units.

A fast-track option is also available for experienced groomers seeking a formal qualification to confirm their skill level or those who have undertaken other qualifications but see the benefit of gaining the iPet Network qualification.

The cat grooming course was amazing and so hands on.  I was able to handle and groom lots of different breeds of cats and work with different temperaments.  I was trained to safely bathe, dry, clip and trim as well as shown how to judge situations, always having the cats best interests in mind.  The trainers wereprofessional, friendly and knowledgeable, showing me the best way to work in a supportive way.  I would highly recommend this course which I completed over eight days. I have almost completed my Cat grooming course with Heidi and Kay. Having briefly attended another grooming course first and was feeling quite despondent by the whole cat grooming experience, I was recommended to book with Absolutely Animals. I spoke to Kay on the phone and explained I felt I was lacking in confidence due to the other course, she made me feel at ease about trying again. I highly recommend Absolutely Animals – Heidi and Kay were my teachers on the cat grooming, it was done in a calm, quiet, informative atmosphere, I have one more day to do to brush up on my clipping and if I / they feel I need another day I can book a flexible day with them. Heidi even let me have a practice clip on Prada her standard poodle!! To get a feel for clippers and to understand the correct pressure. I have just completed day six of the Absolutely Animals, fantastic eight day intensive cat grooming course.  I arrived a novice and under the expert guidance and tuition of Heidi and Kay, I have gained a wealth of knowledge in cat behaviour and temperament, cat health and welfare, handing and all aspects of grooming, from bathing and drying to clipping.   The training is very hands on and I had the opportunity to hone my skills on a variety of different cat breeds and coat types. I also learned about the equipment needed to be a successful groomer and how to use and care for it correctly.  I even had the opportunity to undertake some dog grooming which gave invaluable experience in clipping and scissor work.  I feel so much more confident in my ability now.  Thank you so much and really looking forward to completing my course in the not too distant future.
